Year 4/5
Welcome to Year 4/5!
Hello and welcome to Year 4/5!
The teachers in our class are Mrs Dobson (our school Science lead) and Miss Wynne (our school French lead). We are supported by our fabulous teaching assistants Miss Baron and Mr Calderbank. We’re looking forward to an amazing year of learning and fun together and can’t wait to see your children thrive!
Meet the Team
- Class Teachers : Mrs Dobson (Mondays and Tuesdays) and Miss Wynne (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday)
- Teaching Assistant(s): Miss Baron (Daily) and Mr Calderbank (Every morning)
At Chapelfield we promote a love for reading and we frequently encourage children to share parts of the stories they are reading independently. In our class children choose a book from our reading spine as part of our ‘Bookflix’ lessons and they may choose a book from our class bookshelf as well if they wish. Children have also been given a banded book at their reading level to take home and read to an adult.
Brief Curriculum Overview
What We’re Learning This Year
These cycles are taught on alternate years in order to ensure that children (particularly those in mixed age classes) have covered all areas of the curriculum during their time at Chapelfield.
We are aiming to empower our children’s mental health and well-being and to teach PSHE through the My Happy Mind curriculum, an NHS commissioned initiative.

Learning at Home
New spellings are set every Thursday and tested the following Thursday. These can be practised at home either on paper or via Spelling Shed on an electronic device. Written spelling homework from Spelling Shed should be returned to school the following week.
Homework will also be set on Purple Mash each week and children can also practise their times tables on TT Rockstars. The children all have individual logins to access their accounts at home on these programmes.
There is an expectation that children will read aloud to an adult at home and have their reading records signed at least three times a week these are checked in school on a Friday. If your child has done this, they will achieve a sticker on our class reading chart and when they have completed the chart they will earn a token to use our book vending machine.
Useful Reminders
Y4 - PE Kit is needed on a Friday. (Although this might change so please make sure it is in everyday!)

Reading Books and Reading Records should be brought into school each day. They will be checked on a Friday. Water bottles should also be brought in everyday.
